What Happens This Year at The World’s Leading Trade Show Light + Building
Light + Building is one of the world’s largest Lighting and design trade shows in the world. Home automation is an important part of that and is only becoming more important. Here’s what you can expect at Light + Building this year.
What is Light + Building?
Light + Building is an annual trade fair which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany. It is the largest trade show in the world to focus on Lighting and Building Services. That includes home automation.
Companies from around the world share their products and innovations at Light + Building, giving us a taste of what is in store for the rest of the year. For home automation, this includes seeing where technology is going to take us this year, and what the newest trends are going to be.
In 2016, Light + Building was host to over 2,600 different exhibitors, including big names like Phillips, who made an appearance. This year, that figure looks set to increase, especially in the area of home automation.
When is Light + Building?
The Light + Building trade fare only happens once every 2 years. This year just happens to be one of those years, with the next Light + Building taking place between the 18th and 23rd of March, 2018. The event will last for 6 days.
Home Automation at Light + Building
Home Automation looks set to draw its own waves at the biannual trade event. As an area which combines almost all other aspects covered at the show, home automation is expected to draw some of the largest crowds. Moreover, with home automation adoption rates soaring (as shown by a 31% annual growth rate), it’s no wonder that home automation has become such a central part of the event.
Light + building showcases products and solutions which aim to help lower energy consumption, increase comfort, and boost security. The ‘smartification of everyday life’ is one of the most important themes at the event when it comes to home automation. Technology hosted at the event aims to incorporate the latest in smart home innovation.
Aesthetics and well-being in harmony
Besides just the ‘smartification of everyday life’, another of the event’s top themes is ‘Aesthetics and well-being in harmony’. As suggested by the title, the theme focuses on the design and comfort products are able to offer. However, that does not mean that form is able to compensate for function. Innovation in the lighting market is incredibly important, with those at the event expected to show products which don’t only look good, but also serve a purpose.
The Design Plus Competition
The Design Plus Competition is something celebrated every year at the Light + Building show. Aiming to draw attention to technology leading the way into 2018 and beyond. A specially selected panel of judges evaluate the designs and solutions offered, and award 3 designs the coveted ‘best of’ award.
2018 saw 222 products submitted by over 150 companies. Entries came from around the world, including countries like the USA, Japan, China, and more. Judges were looking for trendsetters and solutions which tapped into otherwise missed potential. For home automation, the power of LED technology was seen as not having been utilized enough and something which they looked for in the competition, and in the future.
The winning products have already been selected and will be on display at the Light + Building show this March.
